About The Mustering Place
I’m Katie Hunt - mother, designer, & farmer florist
I’m a mom to three incredible kids: Henry, Hazel, and Milo. I’ve been married to my smokeshow of a husband Jon since 2016 and this family of ours is my favorite thing in life. I’m originally from Michigan but have called Oregon home for over a decade. I used to be a full time freelance hand-letterer before my career as a people manager and web designer. After I found myself among the countless folks laid off in my industry in the last year, I suddenly had the time to really get my hands dirty in my favorite corner of the world, which is how I ended up falling in love with growing flowers. Now my energy has turned to making memories with my family, DIY projects that I usually attempt on a wing and prayer, expanding our garden into a true family-owned flower farm, and sharing everything I’m learning along the way.
Fast Facts:
I’m pretty tall. I’m an ENFP. I value inclusivity, empathy, and caring for others. I like to think my patronus is a fox but it’s probably some sort of tall flappy bird. I could live on seafood - L I V E. I wish I had better posture, and just more discipline in general, but I’m working on it! I’m a mother by marriage, adoption, and IVF. I’m a staunch advocate for mental health and am constantly seeking that elusive work/life balance. I’m an open book about anything and everything, and happy to answer any questions you have about my journey!
What does “The Mustering Place” mean?
When I first started gardening as a hobby, I’d grab a cup of coffee, slip on the ol’ Crocs (Bluey jibbitz and all), and wander out to the 160 sq. ft. of heaven I was tending in order to muster the energy and courage needed for the day ahead (full time job, three kids, you know the drill). I’d breathe in, breathe out, admire my hard work and all the magic I somehow made from LITERAL DIRT, and remind myself what I’m capable of. We dubbed this ritual “mustering”- as in, “I’m going mustering, back in a few!” Or “I haven’t mustered yet today and I’m feeling it already…I’m stepping out for a moment” and the name “The Mustering Place” just stuck.
